Why choose home care?
As we grow older, there are very few of us who can get by without some kind of outside help or support. For many people the favoured route is home care. This is because it allows you to stay living in the familiar surroundings of your home, amongst your lifetime memories, with feelings of comfort, independence and security. For these reasons, most older people in the UK wish to remain living at home within their community. The thought of having to move from an area they have lived in happily for many years and with family can be distressing.
Other Key factors to consider are these:
One-on-one Care
With home care, the carer is there only for you. This is substantially different from a care home where there are many other people, which means you may not get the same personal attention as that in a one-on-one situation.
Flexibility
Home care is tailored to suit your individual needs, which means that the care you receive and ultimately the money you pay is only for the help you actually need. This again is different from a care home where the fees are standard and often people end up paying for time and services that are not used up or needed.
Independence
Being in your own home will no doubt provide you with independence and control you will not usually have if you reside in a care home. By way of example, in your own home, you can remain in the presence of your pets, whilst some care homes have a no-pets policy. You can also choose the food you like and be surrounded by your favourite items collected over the years. In a care home, you are often restricted to one
room and the meals are structured and provided only at set times.
